Prevention is better than cure. A major part of NI Chest Heart & Stroke’s (NICHS) work is to prevent chest, heart and stroke illnesses. We do this through health promotion work and raising awareness of risk factors for cardiovascular and respiratory illness.
The nurse team carries out health checks and give health promotion talks in workplaces, community centres and health fairs across Northern Ireland. There are a range of different health assessments.
NICHS’ new health programme for Primary and Secondary Schools plans to promote the health of pupils through interactive workshops and the health of the school staff with nurse health assessments offered in the school.
Health and Homeless Project
This service is concerned with the health and well–being of the homeless person.
NICHS’ Health and Homeless programme, Energise, is an outreach service to people living in hostels and assisted living accommodation, offering a range of healthcare services.
Health Promotion Campaigns
NICHS campaigns on various health issues to improve the public’s health and prevent cardiovascular and respiratory illness.
