Scientific Research Grant Applications will be available from June 2014
Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke (NICHS) supports and promotes research carried out in Northern Ireland into the areas of chest, heart and stroke illness.
Each year in Northern Ireland more than 7,000 people die from chest disease, heart disease and stroke: that’s 50% of all adult deaths. Scarcely a family in our community has not been affected.
NICHS’ ability to support Northern Ireland research is entirely dependent on its success at fundraising, including legacies. Such gifts are essential to enable us to find out more about what causes, and how to prevent, chest disease, heart disease and stroke illness.
The results of research provide doctors, nurses and other health professionals with the evidence needed to convince policy makers to both improve prevention methods and clinical services for local patients.
This year, NICHS has funded grants totaling more than £350,000 for research into chest, heart and stroke illness through its Scientific Research Grants Programme. These grants are available to researchers working in Northern Ireland carrying out research that will primarily benefit the people of Northern Ireland.
