Giving in celebration

Instead of receiving a personal gift, more and more people celebrating special occasions are asking friends and family to make a donation donation to Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke.  It’s a wonderful way to use your special occasion to help improve the lives of those who suffer from a chest, heart or stroke illness.

Fiona Mahaffy decided to ask for donations in lieu of gifts for her birthday. She explains why:

 “I decided for my 40th birthday party I would ask for donations instead of presents, as my husband had a heart attack aged 41 and then another one six years later which sadly killed him. I couldn’t bear anyone else going through the hurt that I went through so I decided to help Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke with my £500 donation from family and friends. It will not put an end to people dying but it will make a difference.”
